God Given Moments
Two things come in handy when one is sick at home. Kleenex, and the DVD-TV combo.
Today I saw When Harry Met Sally, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind. The former was light, and serviced my sickness with some good ol' laughs. The latter was deep, and required more of my mental facilities to be switched on.
Both I enjoyed. For different reasons.
Eternal Sunshine packs a lot in an innovative and creative way. It essentially deals with the concept of memory. Whilst Harry and Sally was fun to rewatch.
I'll since leave Harry and Sally aside, and quote a few lines from Eternal Sunshine that I particularly enjoyed.
Dialogue between Joel (Jim Carrey), and Clementine (Kate Winslet) knowing their shared happy time together will be lost.
C: "This is it Joel, it's going to be gone soon."
J: "What do we do?"
C: "Enjoy it."
Dialogue between Joel, and Clementine, that reveals their anguish at the loss.
J: "Was it something I said?"
C: "Yeah. You said, so go with such distain, you know."
J:"Oh. I'm sorry."
C: "Joely, what if you stay this time?"
J:"I'd walked out the door. There is no memory left."
C: "Come back and we can goodbye at least, or pretend we had one."
Joel approaces Clem.
C: "Bye Joel."
J: "I love you."
C: Clementine whispers as she bends down to kiss Joel, "Meet me in Montauk."
Reconciliation between Joel, and Clementine.
J: "Wait."
C: "What? What do you want Joel?"
J: I don't know, I just want you to wait, awhile."
*pause*
C: breathes "ok."
This poem recited by Mary (Kirsten Dunst) pretty much summed it up for me.
How happy is the blameless vessel's lot,
A world forgetting but the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind;
Each prayer accepted,
and each wish resigned.
Mmm :)
Sorting through all the clutter, the movie pretty much demonstrates the power that love can create, not only in our hearts, but in our minds.
Nehemiah
I finished my read of it today. It was good. I can never encapsulate fully what I gain from my quiet times. It's always so wonderful to spend time with God.
As I mentioned earlier, I do still feel as though I'd missed a whole chunk of history moving straight to Nehemiah from Judges. So there are many questions now lurking in my mind.
Questions are easy. Answers requires a bit more effort, or I guess in my case here, patience and perserverance.
