I Love Your Love For Us
I don't plan to stay long. But I thought I'd drop a note before I retire for the evening.
And it was a wonderful evening. Of great meditation, from a 'feed' that brought my mind and heart together, in admiration, at the wonder and majesty of a great and wonderful God.
Don Carson spoke from John 11:1-53 tonight at SMBC's preaching conference. Oh the ironies in the passages! I especially enjoyed the clarity, incisiveness, humilty, and humour in which he spoke. The material was far from light, but he had a way with creating lightness, and delivering his message with a tightness that I simply love.
In fact, I'm still reveling from tonight...
Don first introduced me to the concept of holiness, which subsquently brought me into my first ever encounter with the purity of God. I don't recall when this was, though I do suspect it was sometime around Aug 2003.
Regardless, I do remember the moment with absolute clarity. It is hard to forget such a moment - when one comes face to face with God - seeing and knowing the absolute purity of His heart.
I recall being seated at the second pew on the right-hand-front-facing side of my old church in Milson's Point. Don was closing his sermon...
...and it became a moment that brought my heart to my knees.
And tonight.
Tonight, I saw divine wisdom, of a wait.
I love how He 'waited'. There was a real sense of stillness about His own steps that can be seen very clearly in the passage.
I'm finding myself in a deeper place of wonder and stillness as I, once again, stand in awe at the soverignty, benevolence, transcending peace, and loving kindness of a God that continues to astound, love, ravish, and direct my steps.
And whilst I'm overflowing with praise and wonder, it seems appropriate to quote a song that never fails to spark my spirit to life. We sung it at Sean and Eva's wedding on the weekend, and to my delight, again tonight.
See Him Coming by Mark Peterson
Glory and power to the One who love us
Honour and praise him forever
Come Lord Jesus, Come Lord Jesus
Glory and power to the One who freed us
From all our sins by his blood
Come Lord Jesus, Come Lord Jesus
See Him coming on the clouds of heaven
Every eye behold him now
He's the living One the first and last
Who once was dead, but now he lives forever and ever
Glory and power to the One who made us
A kingdom and priests for God's service
Come Lord Jesus, Come Lord Jesus
See Him coming on the clouds of heaven
Every eye behold him now
He's the living One the first and last
Who once was dead, but now he lives forever and ever
