Nature Being Nature

This was the closest thing I've come to experiencing nature at its most arresting moments. It wasn't an earthquake, a volcano errupting, or a tsuanmi. Nor was I chasing tornados, or lightning in the sky.

Regardless, the thrill and emotions of the moment, is the closest I've come to experiencing what it's like to be confronted with nature at its finest. At first we saw a ball of red flame in the sky, but before we could debate about what it maybe, we had our answer when we rounded the corner:

The bush fire spread from east to west, approximately 1 km before us. Feelings of excitement and fear filled us, as we quickly pondered our options. But not without pulling our cameras out and catching a few shots first.

Safety obviously flew out the window when it came to photography!

So what turned out to be a 10 second 'stop and run', turned out to be over an hour 'stay and shoot'. That is, until the wind changed and embers started flying our way, catching the shrubs alite a few metres from where we were standing. Hilarious.

I stood in the middle of nowhere that night watching the action before me. In awe. The contrast between what I saw before me, and what I knew was behind me was poles apart.

Activity v.s. stillness.

The grand still space behind and blanket of stars over me gave me the assurance of my wellbeing. It was an amazing place to be standing. A perfect view. The balance of the place and atmosphere.

All this brought me to a verse that captivated me, long ago, when I first went though the book of Song of Solomon. An amazing book! It was the strength and power of a love so strong that got me. I couldn't believe it. But I felt it. The unyielding power, just like the flames here, of His Love.

"Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame."

Song of Solomon 8:6
