Testimony

Several people have asked about this. That is, how I came to know, and accept Christ. The story is rather detailed, and can get rather long, and convoluted. I thought it was best that I approach my response in a Q&A format.

How did you come to know Christ?

I came to know Christ, his life, and his claims through reading the Gospel of John. This happened roughly around Oct - Nov 2002.

What did you believe about life before?

I claimed to be agnostic, believed in relativism, trusted in the progress of science & philosophy, and my moral compass was mainly governed by society, and my own ideologies.

How did you come to accept Christ?

I had little exposure to Christ, and had little knowledge of his life, and his claims prior to Oct - Nov 2002.

Upon retrospect, I can say I had many prejudices regarding the church. I had many presuppositions regarding religion. This stemmed mainly from the media, my own ill informed quick opinions, and the little recollection I had of Catholic School in years 7 & 8.

The Gospel of John, challenged all that.

How?

I believed the account of Christ's life as written by John, in the Gospel of John. I believed it was true. It's similar to reading an account of Hitler, and what happened back in the early twentieth century.

I didn't initially accept the story of Christ, but I did believe it. Much like the story of Hitler. It is hard to accept, but you believe it happened.

For myself, I didn't comprehend Christ's story completely at the onset, particularly it's purpose, but deep inside I knew it was true, and that if it was true, it was pretty remarkable.

So, what made you accept?

Realising that my life could end tomorrow.

Was it as simple as that?

In short, yes. We all know our lives can end tomorrow, that's a universal fact. I suspect, we don't often realise it until we're faced with the reality of it ourselves.

How has your life changed since then?

Completely. In ways I could have never imagined.

To share, I read a verse around the time I was investigating, which said,

"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain,"
Phillipians 1:21.
I remember thinking to myself, I had never read anything more radical in my life.

For me, I responded to the above passage with something similar to this. Imagine that you lived your whole life believing the world was flat. Your view of life, in this case, is subsequently built on this assumption. Then one day you hear rumours that someone believed the world was round. It's hard to believe, since you've lived your life thinking it was flat; and to accept it would change the world as you understood it. So the easy thing to do is to dismiss it. You think to yourself, it is, after all, a rumour. No one knows for sure. It hasn't been proven. No one has seen it. So, you move on with life as you know it.

Then one day, you find out for yourself, that the world is actually round, and that shift in perspective, changes everything.

Knowing God through Christ, does change alot of things. More than I think we even know ourselves.

It changes your perspective of life, and subsequently, your understanding of reality, people, and the world.

As you can imagine, there is more I could share with regard to above, which I'm happy to do so should you wish to ask me. Either way, the above, I hope, gives those that have enquired some added insights.
