Amazing Race
Yesterday from 8:45 - 2:00pm I was running around most of Sydney doing this
There were lots of laughs and memorable moments.
We started in St Peters and the clues and challenges throughout the day led us along the following route - Hyde Park, Hyde Park (x2), Art Gallery of NSW, Circular Quay, Observatory Hill, Harbour Bridge, Luna Park, McMahon's Point, Darling Harbour, China Town and back to St Peters.
In no particular order, these were the highlights.
The most "out there" activity was taking a blow up raft approximately 200 meters out of Sydney Harbour round a speed boat and back again.
The "funniest moment" was with the bats at the Art Gallery. We had to count the numbers of bats in the art work. When I saw it I was like "you've got to be joking!" That is until one of the workers at the Art Gallery said "if all else fails look at the plaque." There were 99 bats.
The "I'm glad I didn't have to do that" moment was when my team mate had to take the challenge of eating fermented soy beans in a glue like paste. We were told it was a Japanese delicacy. It looked bad.
The "don't freak me out moment" was when we thought we got our team score sheet wet whilst out in the harbour only to find out we soaked the activity sheet, before freaking ourselves out thinking we had lost the sheet along the way. We eventually found it in my back pack. Phew!
The "wow this is a really well organised event moment" was at the Welcome Wall at Darling Harbour where we had the monumentus task of locating a list of names given to us in a photograph. Have you seen how many names are listed there?
Coming a close second was the sheet of cryptic quizes and activities we had to complete to earn the additional 100 points needed to win the race.
The "equaliser moment" apart from public transport was at the Art Gallery of NSW. It didn't open till 10!
The "awwwww this is so good moment" was when I took the challenge to swim 100m at Sydney Olympic pool over juggling three balls without dropping it over a period of 30 seconds. With the 30 degree heat, diving in was a drreeeeeeeeeeam!!
The "I'm going to be dead tomorrow moment" was when climbed what felt like Jacob's ladder to heaven at the Sydney Harbour Bridge Pylon to get a poem at the top. That's the second time I've been up there in six months not to mention my whole lifetime! You get good angles of Sydney up there.
The "I can't believe it's only 11:30am moment" came when it felt like 2pm.
The "Oh you're a life saver" moment was when my partner and I were tied hand and foot like convicts and the challege was to get ourselves free by the next check point and a homeless man came up to us with a pair of sissors and said I'll set you free for $2.
Overall it was a bundle of fun. Christine and I both got ourselves injured. Chris more severly bruised than I at one of the challenges (soccor playoffs), but as they say, no pain no gain.
Mostly I felt reinvigorated. What a day! It felt good to be so active.
I finished the day with a cherry on top - Church for 5pm service and had dinner with Lou at home whom I spontaneously invited after church just cos I thought "hey why not". Great conversations. Good company.
Not a bad way to finish the day after being challenged by God's word. And challenged I was. Not so much because of the message but more because my heart continues to grow in understanding. But that is a story for another day.
