Lost Civilisations

About two weekends ago I saw a documentary on ABC about the history of Easter Island. Until then it has always been a mystery to me. Something I've always wondered about. A place I once considered, and still consider, visiting one day.

The documentary was a fasinating watch. Rarely am I captivated by the box. The documentary explored how the civilisation essentially wiped itself out, revealed the tenacity of spirit within the people, the unifying tools the community created in their fight to survive, and how the introduction of english settlement brought about their eventual death.

It's a fasinating topic area. History. Lost worlds. Societies.

I still wonder about the stonehenges.

Walk The Line

Yep. Good. Loved the costumes. Great performances.

Not much more to say really.

I came home to an empty house the other day. It is not the norm but it was refreshingly peaceful.

In my state of tranquility I decided to opt for some creative therapy and whipped up a few dishes!

I had fun in the kitchen and topped it off with a dose my latest craze - salsa.

Here is what was on the menu.

1. Steam salmon fish with garlic, corriander, chilli in balsamic vinegar and sesame oil.

2. Squid and prawn stir fry with garlic and snap peas.

3. Stir fry chicken with ginger and vegetables.

All served with brown and white rice.

I didn't really have much time to eat but Mum and Dad got well fed!

What if

I heard this song on the radio this morning. It struck a chord. Prior to 2002 I never questioned the reality of who Christ was and what he did. In my mind he was always a man that went down in history. A good teacher. A wise man. Someone that had no relevance in my life. A common and fair view.

But what if?

What if he wasn't just a good teacher? What if he was not only a wise man but the wisest man? What if he had relevance in my life like I could have never have dreamed of?

I didn't ask what if. Science always got in the way. That is until I discovered science had it's limits.

The chorus in Nichole Nordeman's "What If" is a reflection of my experience.

But what if you're wrong?
What if there's more?
What if there's hope you never dreamed of hoping for?
What if you jump?
And just close your eyes?
What if the arms that catch you, catch you by surprise?
What if He's more than enough?
What if it's love?

It reflects the acknowledgement that I had it wrong. That there was more. More than I could have ever dreamed or have hoped for.

It definitely caught me by surprise. I use to wonder why someone would do such a thing for me. I felt unworthy to deserve such a gift.

The answer isn't easy to grasp if at all, but it astounds me time and time again when I recognise it's depth.

The answer, love. Not just any love. But a pure and perfect love.

The love of God found in Christ Jesus.

Here is the song's first verse and chorus.

What if you're right?
And he was just another nice guy
What if you're right?
What if it's true?
They say the cross will only make a fool of you
And what if it's true?

What if he takes his palace in history
With all the prophets and the kings
Who taught us love and came in peace
But then the story ends
What then?

But what if you're wrong?
What if there's more?
What if there's hope you never dreamed of hoping for?
What if you jump?
And just close your eyes?
What if the arms that catch you, catch you by surprise?
What if He's more than enough?
What if it's love?
